Over the past several years, I have worked to eliminate toxins in our home including the soaps we use, the things I cook with, replacing chemical fragrances found in candles with essential oils, as well as our cleaning solutions.
I have tried various DIY cleaning solutions, some with vinegar, some baking soda, and of course my fave, castile soap. I have loved switching to non-toxic cleaning products especially with having 2 toddlers around. They love to help me clean (the sweetest) and I am so relieved to know that if they were to get any of the cleaning solutions on them, it would be totally safe.
I use this DIY all-purpose cleaner without vinegar most frequently as it is truly an all-purpose cleaner and is so effective at cleaning. There are really no restrictions on what it can be used on.
The DIY All-purpose with vinegar works well, however you have to be careful not to spray it on granite or stone countertops or on flooring. That means if you are using an all-purpose spray with vinegar, you have to have ANOTHER spray just for your countertops and floors. That makes me feel like cleaner with vinegar it is not the best all-purpose spray.
My DIY all-purpose cleaner without vinegar uses castile soap, essential oils and filtered water. These ingredients all work so well together to remove dirt or grime on any surface. This is my favorite cleaner by far and it literally takes less than a minute to mix up. If you are looking for a true all-purpose spray, this is for you!
FAQ
How do you make a disinfectant spray without vinegar?
There are a few different ways to make a disinfectant spray without vinegar. A really effective way is to use a bit of rubbing alcohol or vodka in your castile soap cleaning solution. If you don’t want to add those, adding antimicrobial essential oils such as tea tree, lemon and lavender will give the spray added cleaning properties, which is why I always add these essential oils to my all-purpose cleaning spray.
How do you make a natural multi purpose cleaner?
To make a natural multi purpose cleaner, simply pour each natural ingredient directly into the bottle, put the lid on and gently swirl the bottle to mix it together so it is well combined. It truly could not be easier.
How do you use castile soap as an all-purpose cleaner?
To use castile soap as an all-purpose cleaner, dilute the castile soap with water and add antimicrobial essential oils such as tea tree, lemon and lavender.
Can castile soap be used as household cleaner?
Castile soap can absolutely be used as a household cleaner. I use this DIY all-purpose spray without vinegar for my daily kitchen cleanup (counters, sink, stovetop, table, etc), my weekly bathroom cleaning, dusting throughout the house, and when cleaning messes up off of the floor. It is so good at removing the dirt and grime, leaving things clean and fresh!
Is castile soap a good all-purpose cleaner?
To me, castile soap is the best all-purpose cleaner. There are SO many uses even beyond an all-purpose cleaner including body wash, hand soap, laundry, veggie wash, and so many more.
DIY All-Purpose Cleaner without Vinegar
What you need for DIY All-Purpose Cleaner without Vinegar
- Unscented Castile Soap
- Filtered Water
- Essential Oils – tea tree, lemon, lavender, or eucalyptus are my favorites
- 16 oz. Amber Glass Spray Bottle
- Measuring Cups & Spoons
- Funnel
A dark color is best if you are using essential oils. The amber glass color protects the essential oils as they can lose potency if exposed to sunlight. Glass is best over plastic because the essential oils can potential erode the plastic.
How to make DIY All-Purpose Cleaner without Vinegar:
Pour 2 Tbs of unscented castile soap directly into your amber glass spray bottle. Using a funnel helps a ton in avoiding spilling! 😉
Next, pour 14 oz. (1³/₄ Cups) of filtered water into the glass bottle. Add 20-25 drops of essential oils.
Place the spray bottle lid back on and gently swirl the liquid in the bottle to mix the solution together.
Use as an all-purpose cleaner in the kitchen, bathrooms, floors or for dusting. If using on extra greasy spot (like on the stovetop) spray generously on the grease and allow to sit for a few minutes before wiping up. Repeat if necessary.
My favorite essential oils for this DIY All-purpose Cleaner without vinegar:
Feel free to mix and match two or three essential oils or pick one single oil! I recommend 20-25 drops total of essential oils for a 16 oz. bottle. You really can’t go wrong with any of these essential oils!
- Tea Tree – known for its cleansing properties, antimicrobial, neutralizes odors and works so well on any skin blemish.
- Lemon – a staple in our house. Lemon also has great cleansing properties, removes sticky residue off surfaces and odor neutralizer. I love the smell of lemon EO, so clean and citrusy.
- Lavender – another favorite I have to order frequently. Lavender is antimicrobial and can be used in cleaning, on skin blemishes, bug bites, cold sores, or diffused. If the only essential oil you have is lavender, you are set.
- Eucalyptus – antimicrobial and adds a “spa”-like scent to your cleaning solution. Eucalyptus reminds my husband and me of when we were on our honeymoon in Dominica. Our bungalow always smelled like lavender and eucalyptus essential oils. It is also great for diffusing and to rub on your chest for opening air passages.
- Peppermint – clean, fresh scent with antimicrobial properties. A great boost for your all-purpose cleaner while promoting a calm environment.
- Cedarwood – antimicrobial and naturally deodorizing. Calming and woodsy scent, pairs excellently with lavender.
